In the country, many are wrongly informed or not informed at all regarding their rights and thus exploited by those with power in society. Thus, to help create a wiser and more aware society, my group and I aimed at creating a quick way to raise awareness on the Fundamental Rights, in a week's time frame.
The process we followed was –
1. Understand the topic completely
2. Find ways where we could fail
3. Turn our fears into questions
4. Understand why exactly we are doing what we are doing
5. Understand where we want to be in half a year, a year and in 5 years
6. Gain relevant knowledge from an expert
7. Map out the stakeholders and our goals
8. State the “How might we?s” (HMW)
9. List our Inspirations
10. Ideate
11. Prototype
When we were noting down the possibilities of failure, we thought of all the smallest of problems and finally, when we moved on to the next part on how we could turn these into questions, it was much easier.
The talk with the expert was very good. We got a better, bigger picture of what we are actually looking at and how our target audience would actually be.
Mapping out was something that we all found a little challenging. Firstly, I don’t think we had clearly understood how to go about it, but, later, when we did understand, all the pieces came into place.
After the HMW session and after the decider chose what he felt was relevant we could see the project going somewhere.
Ideation was something that I personally found really fun. I enjoyed the Crazy 8s and I realized that rushing things in a competitive environment with a time limit is something that gets me all charged up.
We then finalised on creating an app for people of the middle class. Our Beta name for the app is What the Haq, where Haq is the Hindi word for "Rights".
The app would have the basic Fundamental Rights, written in a simpler form for people to understand. If a certain right has been violated, one can immediately lodge a complaint and gather evidence and send it to the concerned authority via a chat based system. The app will also have a news column where one can read all news related to the rights. A forum section is also present where people of authoritative status can post media regarding the work they do, and the citizens can also post if they need any help from the public or are offering a service to the public.
